Xinfeng Water Authority
Real-time water outlet monitoring and workflow management
Xinfeng Water Authority owns and manages the water utility infrastructure in the Xinfeng region, including a large network of water discharge points into the region's main river system.
The brief
Inspections that took days, not minutes
The discharge points are spread across a large and, in places, rugged area. Physical inspection was time-consuming and intermittent, so issues were not detected straight away. Under the existing workflow, a field technician had to inspect an outlet, return to the office to report and submit a maintenance request, seek approval, and only then go back to site to fix the issue.
Our strategy
One platform for every data source
CT deployed its IoT platform to monitor and manage a network of over 130 water outlets. We started by aggregating the client’s siloed operational data (water-quality stations, weather stations, hydrological stations, flow measurements, CCTV cameras and IoT field equipment) into the platform.
CT then created a customised dashboard with an integrated map visualisation layer.
Application & visualisation layer
Live status, live cameras
The dashboard gives a single-pane view of all assets, operational and IoT data, asset locations and real-time status. Users can view and interact with the CCTV camera network in real time.
To improve the workflow, CT built a smart application layer. It continuously checks all new data to ensure water-quality parameters are within range. If something is out of range, the system automatically alerts operations, finds the nearest field technician and generates a work order for an inspection.
Mobile application
The nearest technician, already on the way
Through the integrated mobile application, the field technician receives the work order with navigation to the outlet. They carry out the inspection and record their findings, including photos, which reach the operations centre in real time.
Based on the inspection, maintenance tasks are assigned to the operations and maintenance team, for faster service requests and job turnaround. Operational data, IoT data, work orders and maintenance tasks are all stored in the platform and tracked against KPIs.
Transformation
What changed.
- 01Improved water-quality outcomes
- 02The life of assets under management protected and extended
- 03Administration and maintenance costs streamlined and reduced
